    "I am glad you are honest with me." Xhiero sighed and pulled her closer for a kiss. "We can talk about this another time...alone."

    Azazel returns the kiss and nods. "Later then."

    "If we have time to kill then I am going for a swim. Damn this heat." She heads back into her room to change and then makes her way out to the pool. Wasting no time, she dives into the cool water and floats for a bit.

    Xhiero's eyes shifted between Val and Susan before he backs out of the room.

    "Perhaps I will too." He heads upstairs too change into a pair of swim trunks and a thin hoodie shirt. Xhiero pulled the hoodie over his head and crouched down near the edge of the pool to watch Azazel swim. His hands dug into his pocket. As she swam by he throws a fist full of flower petals at her.

    Azazel flicks a couple of petals back at Xhiero with a scowl. "You know, when people say to give your woman flowers, I do not think this is what they mean."

    She dives below the water to wash the rest of the flower petals away before resuming her relaxing float around the pool.

    With wide eyes, Lexa hesitantly reaches up and pets Val's ears. She grins with delight when she realizes how soft they are.


    Susan rolls her eyes at the display, but can't help the small smile that reaches her lips. 


    "Tell me, have you always been this good with kids?"

    Etheyl was relieved to see Lexa recovering. She was still worried, but at least the girl seemed stable.

    Etheyl, being quite familiar with the feeling, can't help but notice Susan's little smile. She leans over to Susan with her own knowing smile.
    "Really shows you a new side to them, doesn't it?"

    "Lexa, is there still much pain? I'm glad Xhiero was quick to help you, too."

    Lexa smiles and shakes her head, scribbling a short note.

    "Of course not. And Crumnley hates kids."

    "Oh, Lexa, I don't want you to have to be used to it," she says sadly. "But you take a bit to make sure you're ready, and I promise you we'll get you to where you need to be. Let's hope the diplomatic approach works."



    Etheyl surprises herself as she eyes Val's ears with...jealousy?! Those...do look soft. Damn. I should have felt Azazel's that one time I accidentally got her drunk...

    "I am not sure. I don't interact much with kids. Some people told me I am a child at heart, so may be I know how a child wants to be treated sometimes."

    "No child should be use to pain." Val frowned. He lifted Lexa onto his shoulder and walked into the kitchen.

    "Some ice cream will do the trick. It even works on grown men like Xhiero! Then again...Xhiero is...unique." He opened the fridge and takes out Azazel's ice cream. Val scoops a ball and puts it on a cone before handing it to Lexa.

    "Don't spill any on my head." He said as he cleaned up.

    Susan's gaze shifts back to Val, and she groans internally.


    Damn, I hope he can't hear this conversation....


    "Shut up, Etheyl."
    She follows behind the group still distracted by Val's outfit.


    Lexa studies the new treat with interest she sniffs it experimentally then grins and shoves the whole thing into her mouth. The grin turns rapidly into a frown and she clutches her head.

    "Uhh...Honey...you eat it slowly." Val lift Lexa off his should and put her down on the stool until her brain freeze was over. He scoops himself a smaller ball and puts it on a cone.

    "Normally people lick it where it starts melting, like this." He demonstrates.

    "But since you can't do that and I don't like to eat things slowly you can bite bits with your lips." Val hands Susan his partially eaten cone and makes Lexa another but smaller.

    "Too much sugar is bad for you, but just a little more won't hurt." He hands it to the child before turning to Etheyl.

    "Ice cream?"

    "Unless you can catch it with your mouth." Xhiero pulled out a bar of chocolate and unwrapped it. He takes a bite and waves it towards Azazel. "Or you can have a boyfriend feed it to you."

    Etheyl is transfixed, stunned with a mixture of horror and admiration as the whole scoop disappears.

    "Oh, crap! Lexa, it should go away in a few seconds...you just learned about brain freeze. I...guess Oghma wouldn't have covered that."

    Yep, he's alright. Demetri wouldn't offer me ice cream. Or not terrorize or kill me if we're splitting hairs, but definitely not offer ice cream.

    "Still afraid of Princess, Etheyl? Fear not, he is usually pretty well behaved."

    Lexa nervously resumes her attempts at eating ice cream, and smiles happily when this time it does not result in a splitting headache.

    Susan stares dubiously at the ice cream she has been left holding. Tasting it she shudders at the sweetness and waves it in Val's direction.

    "Come rescue your cone full of cavities before it melts all over me." Looking around the room she contemplates something.

    "Guys, we should take the Hellraiser to this new kingdom. It should be faster, and I bet Lexa would enjoy being on an airship."


    Lexa looks up at Susan with wide eyes and nods excitedly then pauses to write.

    [What is an airship?]

    "Ohh? I am a strange man? Fine, I was being nice and thought I would share but if you put  it like that I will eat this by myself." Xhiero takes another bite from his bar of chocolate and looks up at the sky. Turning his eye contact away from her.

    Val sighed and took the ice cream from Susan's hand. He lean forward onto the counter and quietly lick the melting ice cream as he let Susan entertain Lexa with talk of an airship. He playfully adjust his glasses and fidget with his remote in his free hand. Suddenly Val's eyes widen as he walked out of the room, his attention fixated on the remote.

    "I'll admit, I find his labcoat to be a bit distracting."

    Etheyl looks genuinely concerned about Susan's comment.

    "No, quite the opposite! I haven't known him long is all." She takes a shy taste of her ice cream. "Just appreciated the offer. Not like I can turn down ice cream."

    Etheyl gives Val an appreciative smile.

    She watches as his tail wags, a bit amused. She wasn't used to friends with tails; Azazel always hid hers. It added to his body language, like...well, an animal's tail would. Etheyl found herself accepting him into her circle of allies despite their brief acquaintance. He seemed like a genuine guy.
    She grinned at herself. Trusting people quick. More like her old days.
    Course he was also vouched for by one of her oldest friends. But still.

    Val returned a couple minutes later and hands Susan a bowl of shaved ice, but it smells strongly of alcohol. He smiles at the remote and tucks it away.

    "Why hello there. What happened to strange men with chocolate." He grinned at her.

    "I guess the chocolate trap was unavoidable for you."
