RP Free for All: Chapter 21

"I'm somewhat new around here. I've been off studying maritime law in another city. I've only just returned to visit my father. Nothing quite so interesting I'm afraid."

"Do you not enjoy it here? You must have ladies lining up to your door to keep you company, handsome as you are." Vasani slaps a hand over mouth and looks away, trying to will a blush to color her cheeks.

Titus laugh at her comment as he blushed.

"I have been spared from the attention by staying home most of my time. I enjoy being alone and reading books. Occasionally I leave the house for walks, but I didn't think I would bump into company today." He helped himself to a pastry.

"Thank you for the sweets. Don't be shy and make yourself at home."

Vasani obligingly takes a sip of tea and chuckles. "Quite literally bump into company. Or I suppose your company bumped into you."

"I envy your ability to bask in solitude. I'm afraid I would get very  lonely."

"Perhaps you need to find a hobby to keep your mind from thinking of such things. Eda here enjoys baking in her free time."

The maid suddenly gasp.

"That's right. I forgot to start baking. Please excuse me, young master!" The young woman quickly scurried out of the room.

Vasani somehow manages to keep her eye from twitching and smiles instead. "Afraid I don't have much for that with my studies."

"I'm sorry, but could you direct me to your powder room?"

Titus waved for Melody over.

"Will you please show Valindra to the..."

"Oh no! My lady, I should head home with these apples. I forgot the cook needed them before supper. Sadly I injured my wrist the last time you tripped and pushed my down the stairs..." Sloan sigh with a troubled look on his face.

"I would be happy to help carry the bag if the younger master would not mind." Melody fidgets and looks at Titus.

"Perhaps it would be best." He nods to her before standing up.

"I will show you to the powder room. Come this way." Titus waved for Vasani to follow him down the hall.

Vasani raises an eyebrow at Sloan before nodding. "Very well. Be safe. I won't be long."

She follows along behind Titus and looks around for anything valuable looking. "Your home is lovely."

The halls are lined with paintings and sculptures that all look of equal value. Vasani's eyes land on a glistening gem inside a glass case. That seems to be worth more then everything else in the hall.

"It is right here." He smiled and cracked the door slightly open.

"Thank you." She smiles and slides past him and through the door, hand 'accidentally' brushing his side

His hand caught her's as he stared at Vasani.

"Don't hesitate to call if you need anything. My room is down the hall." He let go of her hand and walked down the hall.

Vasani nods and goes into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her. She putters around for a few minutes to give Titus time to get to his room. 

Once, she deems it safe enough, she leaves and heads for the case with the gem. As quietly as possible, she lifts the lid and swipes the gem.

Vasani successfully swipes the gem. Suddenly something doesn't feel right.

Vasani sighs. "Why does something always go wrong?"

She stashes the gem and looks around for whatever has set her on edge.

Vasani can't seem to pinpoint why she feels uneasy. Maybe she should just move on.

Shrugging it off, Vasani heads down to Titus's room and knocks on the door.

"Come in." Titus called from inside.

He was seated at his desk going through a stack of papers when Vasani entered. Titus was too busy going through his work to look up for the moment. His is large and decorated with even more valuables then the hall. A large case of various gems and rocks against the walls with larger paintings. A small collection of expensive weapons and statues at another wall.

"A workaholic I see." Vasani prowls around the room, taking in everything. She stops before the weapons and licks her lips, reaching out to run her finger over the blade.

"And a geologist?" She says, taking note of the rocks and gems.

Titus let out a laugh as he stood up from his desk. He reached out and held Vasani's hand as she touched the blade.

"You seem to have a fascination in my collection, Valindra. Are you a collector yourself?"

"There's a certain beauty to blades, but no I don't collect them myself."

Unable to stop herself, her lips twist into a wry grin. "Do you know how to fight with them too? Or do you just collect."

"I like to try different things even meddling with fighting, but I am not very good with them." He smirk.

"It is rare such worse coming from a woman who studies maritime and dresses so elegantly. I think I am quite intrigue by you." Titus took a step closer to Vasani.

Her grip on her fake persona faltering again, Vasani smirks. "Maybe you just need to get out more."

She mirrors his movements and steps closer. She twists the hand he was holding to lace their fingers together.
