"Mister Door, has anyone every told you about what it's like to grow up in a gnomish family? It's complete madness, it is. As a gnome, you are almost guaranteed two things in life; siblings, and parents who love nature.
I have two brothers, you know. And of course I am the youngest.. my oldest brother's a bit of an arse, a bookworm and clever bastard named Klumn. I also have an older, middle brother named Klemn, who was always a quiet, kind fellow who was always tough, gentle, and ended up moving to a little tree-top town and started a farm. But before all that we lived in the forests with our parents.
Our old mum and dad, they were crazy. They would pick berries and twigs all day, foraging for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They would always try and find new animal friends and always warned us about the dangers of living in the human cities. It was that last part that made my oldest brother's life tough.. he was the first to want to move to those cities, and they would always argue with him. He wanted to learn magic, he said, in those big academies he would always look at from afar.. he never knew how he would pay for it, but he was so determined to learn. Our parents disagreed, and they never really forgave him for leaving our little home in the forest. By the time I came of age to leave the house, they didn't seem to care anymore about me wanting to learn about machines.
It wasn't long after that they ended up passing away. It was around than my eldest brother left the academy, jaded and bitter as they crushed his hopes. It was a rough time for him, and we would argue a lot. Our middle brother, Klemn, he would try and keep us together, and really if it weren't for him we would have probably stopped talking all together.
It wasn't until my eldest brother, Klumn, met his wife Viviana, and adopted a little human girl when he started becoming his cheerful self again. He taught himself magic, and soon became interested in it all over again, scouring cities for old magic. Between Etheyl and Viviana, I started to see his smile again, even if only between our arguments.
My brothers were always a pain in the arse, but, stuff like this, a magic door that talks, magical mysteries and adventure.. I wish they were here to see it. So we could argue about how to next we progress. And that, Mister Door, is a slice of my life story. Now you can say you know what growing up a gnome is like."
