    "But it is fun!" Susan declares pointing at the finger Aden is jabbing into her cheek. "See?"


    Knowing that probably won't soothe Aden's bout of irritation, she sighs.

    "I am sorry that I repeatedly molested your face, and that I found your irritation over it amusing. I will not do it again... at least not repeatedly."

    Vasani's eyebrows go up a bit in surprise, but she recovers and scoots a little closer to Sloan. Her hand slowly to gently trace the shell of his tattered ear with a finger. "How did this happen?"

    "You are not one to stray away from curiosity, are you?" He catches her hand, holding it in place as he gaze into her eyes. Sloan slowly moved her hand away from his tattered ear and leans back onto one arm.

    "These happened when I was a young lad." He points at one ear.

    "Back when I was still chained to a master. One master enjoyed watching fights. The bloodier the better. He always mixed the battles up between slaves and beast. I was not one of the lucky few and was put against those cursed owl bears."

    His expression turned dark as he paused to take a drink.

    "I thought that would be my last day to walk this world. I was badly mauled and that thing took away a chunk of my ear. The master saw my survival as a potential assassin and kept me alive."

    Sloan traced his other ear.

    "As for this one, another bastard owner enjoyed pulling me by the ear when he wanted something or merely for entertainment. I was fed up one day and fought back..he yanked the thing right off out of rage."

    He laughed and turned to Vasani.

    "Did that quench your thirst for information, love?"

    "It isn't his opinion that matters to me!" She exclaims with frustration. "Its mine and... Val's..."

    "I don't give a crap what that man thinks of me, hell, this conversation happened shortly after I threatened to hunt him down and torture him to death.

    But, he did make me realize that what you and I have been doing isn't what friends typically do! They don't see each other naked, they don't sleep in the same bed together. And they don't cause the... sensations you cause in me. If Val did those things with one of his friends I'd be heartbroken.... I don't ever want to be a source of pain for him. I love him more than anything."  

    She looks at him pleadingly.

    "I didn't hear his opinion and respond accordingly. I heard what I knew immediately was fact, because I think I knew it all along."

    Frowning she continues.

    "It isn't what he thinks of me, that is the problem. Nor will it ever be. The problem, is what I think of you."
