The staircase is lined with portraits of kings long past. Azazel can hear very monotonous footsteps from the end of the hall, but none in the immediate vicinity, it would seem they didn't expect anyone to find the secret entrance.

Xhiero grabbed the boy before he cold walk any further. Holding him by the collar of his shirt.
"Listen, boy. How does a peasant boy like you know the castle so well. Especially that the king is ill. I am starting to lose my trust in you unless you can convince us otherwise." The reaper growled as he stared into the boy's eyes.

The boy shudders slightly under Xhiero's glare.
"I... I don't know! I just do!" He sighs. "The people of this town do the same thing every day, in the same way. Nothing ever changes, no one ages, it's just the same damn thing. But lately they have functioned less where before they could manage around the unexpected, in the rare cases when it occurred, now they just kind of break down. It has to be the king! He protected us! He saved us and made us like this, if he is dying his ability to keep everything in stasis must be wavering!"

"I... I don't know what will happen if he dies before he frees everyone!"
